The main reasons people hesitate over lifting for sagging skin or a drooping contour are 'fear of pain' and 'reluctance toward an obviously done look'.
It is true that conventional RF or ultrasound lifting has had a barrier to entry because of strong heat or sharp stinging sensations, despite clear benefits.
However, ONDA lifting in Gangnam (ONDA), which has recently drawn attention, addresses these limits and is establishing itself as a next-generation option that aims to refine fine contours and improve inner firmness naturally, in a comfortable process without the burden of pain or anesthesia.
What sets 2.45 GHz microwave ONDA lifting apart
Whereas conventional anti-aging lasers build up heat from the epidermis inward in sequence, the ONDA lifting device uses a patented 2.45 GHz microwave (Coolwaves) mechanism.
Its key feature is that energy is not wastefully scattered at the surface but delivered directly to the target dermis and fat layer. The internal heat energy generated by rapidly vibrating water molecules inside the skin is meant to cause immediate contraction of aged, loosened collagen fibers and, over the longer term, to support new collagen production in several ways.
Comparing the main lifting device types
The device type that suits you depends on your goal: fat refinement, inner firmness or deep fascia-layer lifting.
| Category | RF lifting | Ultrasound lifting (HIFU) | ONDA lifting (microwave) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Energy principle | Radiofrequency current | High-intensity focused ultrasound | 2.45 GHz microwave (Coolwaves) |
| Target depth | Epidermis to dermis overall | SMAS (fascia) layer | Dermis (3 mm) & fat layer (7 mm) |
| Main effects | Fine lines, skin texture, inner firmness | Improving deep-layer sagging and lifting | Fat-cell refinement + collagen tightening |
| Pain sensitivity | May involve redness, heat and pain | May involve deep, sharp pain | Strong cooling keeps pain to a minimum (numbing is generally not needed) |

Dual 3 mm & 7 mm handpiece strategy
Considering each person's different skin thickness and fat-distribution density, the two handpieces are switched and applied strategically.
① 7 mm handpiece (targets the fat layer)
It reaches deep layers of the skin to refine areas of fat that have lost support. It is useful for improving the double-chin line, deep cheek fat, a drooping face contour and local body areas.
② 3 mm handpiece (targets the dermis)
It works on the shallow dermis to raise collagen density. It is specialized for softening fine lines, refining skin texture and surface tightening.
Cooling technology that reduces pain and downtime
Contrary to the common belief that 'lifting has to hurt to work', ONDA lifting greatly reduces irritation and pain.
More than 80% of the delivered energy is described as reaching the dermis and fat layer directly, which considerably lowers the risk of epidermal damage, and continuous contact surface cooling (Integrated Cooling) works at the tip of the handpiece while energy is released. As a result, most people feel only a warm sensation and can be treated comfortably, without separate sleep anesthesia or numbing cream. Individual sensitivity varies.

Four remodeling effects you can look forward to
It goes beyond temporarily pulling up sagging tissue and aims at remodeling the skin structure as a whole.
One-to-one personal solution at Gangnam Pieobom Clinic
Even with the same device, the quality of the result varies greatly with the doctor's skill and detailed layer-by-layer design.
At Gangnam Pieobom Clinic, Dr. Hyoseung Jang, President of the Korean Association of Clinical Aesthetic Medicine and a Key Doctor with more than 15 years of experience, personally measures each patient's layer thickness and fat distribution precisely before creating a one-to-one personal design.
If you want to regain your skin's natural firmness and refine a sharper face line without the worry of pain, we invite you to experience a systematic microwave anti-aging solution at Gangnam Pieobom Clinic.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is numbing cream really not needed for ONDA lifting?
In most cases, yes. A high-performance cooling system is built into the handpiece and keeps cooling the epidermis for protection as energy is delivered. Apart from a mild warm sensation there is little pain, so treatment is generally possible right away without numbing cream. Please tell us if you are sensitive to pain.
How much bruising, swelling and downtime is there after treatment?
Because this is a non-invasive treatment with very little surface damage or irritation, bruising and swelling rarely occur. A slight warmth may remain right after treatment, but it settles the same day, and you can usually return to daily life and wear makeup right away.
When will I notice results, and how long do they last?
You may feel a light tightening right after treatment from collagen contraction, and over 2-4 weeks fat refinement and collagen production progress and the contour becomes more defined. With 3 or more sessions at 3-4 week intervals, results are described as lasting stably for 6 months to a year or more. Individual results vary.
Is there a risk of hollow cheeks or skin sinking?
ONDA lifting clearly separates areas that need fat refinement (double chin, deep cheek fat) from areas that only need firmness by using the 7 mm and 3 mm handpieces. With a one-to-one custom design, the aim is a firm contour without the worry of hollow cheeks.
Can it be combined with other treatments such as DENSITY, Ultherapy or Juvelook?
Yes, combining them can complement each other well. For example, after refining double-chin fat and the line with ONDA lifting, filling inner firmness and hollow areas with DENSITY or Juvelook Volume can give a more three-dimensional improvement in appearance.
What kind of doctor should I choose for ONDA lifting?
The balance between fat reduction and firmness changes greatly with the handpiece's moving speed, the angle at which energy is delivered and the energy distributed per unit area. It is therefore key to choose a medical team with a strong anatomical understanding of each skin layer and ample clinical experience.
